Protecting the Macintyre from feral pigs

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced the Waggamba Landcare Group – based in the Goondiwindi region – will conduct a feral pest control program with the help of $20,000 secured through the Federal Government’s Communities Environment Program (CEP).

“Feral pigs destroy habitats and native vegetation in catchments across the region so I welcome Waggamba Landcare Group’s initiative to address these concerns,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Waggamba Landcare Group will invest $20,000 to help manage feral pigs on a 150km stretch of the Macintyre River between Goondiwindi and Mungindi.

“This pest destroys waterways by eating vegetation, native animals and causing erosion – I look forward to seeing the results from Waggamba Landcare Group’s pro-active approach to managing pigs.

“Making sure native species and vegetation have a chance to grow with reduced interference from feral pigs means we’re helping to keep our regions cleaner and greener for everyone to utilise.”

Through this round of the Communities Environment Program $22 million has been secured for community clubs, not-for-profit organisations, landcare groups and schools to address a pest or environmental issue.

Each federal electorate has been allocated up to $150,000 in 2019-20 for up to 20 projects.
