Chinchilla’s Illoura Village to receive $14 million capital grant from Fed Govt to expand facility

Seniors in Chinchilla can be assured their future is in safe hands, thanks to a record $14 million investment from the Federal Government to deliver the Chinchilla Aged Care Master Plan which will rebuild and expand Illoura Village.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud said the Federal Government’s significant investment into Illoura Village represents more than just bricks and mortar.

“This is about reinforcing the future of care for senior residents across Maranoa,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Southern Cross Care Queensland, providers of Illoura Village, will use this funding to transform the current 66 bed facility into a contemporary home supporting up to 81 residents, including a dedicated dementia care home.”

The funding, secured through the Federal Government’s 2020 Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR), secures a better aged care experience in the Western Downs.

“I’m proud to have secured this funding for Illoura because it was a special part of my childhood staying with Col and Taylor who were the heart and soul of Illoura for so many years,” Mr Littleproud said.

”It’s a tragedy when our seniors are forced to move away from their rural community and everything they’ve ever known to a larger town or city to receive care as their needs change.

“Funding for this project goes a long way to making sure our seniors can age in place in Chinchilla, close to the support of their family and friends, and with the facilities to support their needs.

“It offers peace-of-mind and security not only for local residents already in care but also those who are carefully considering the next phase of their life.”

More than $15 million was secured by four aged care facilities – in Goondiwindi, Chinchilla, Jandowae, Dalby and Warwick – across the Maranoa electorate through this round of ACAR funding.
