Federal Budget: Infrastructure investment to drive freight efficiency in Maranoa

Road safety and freight efficiency in Maranoa are set for a boost with a $400 million investment towards the Inland Freight Route to be announced in this week’s Federal Budget.

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said this new investment will help Maranoa to bounce back stronger than ever from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Maranoa continues to benefit from the Federal Coalition Government’s record infrastructure investment, and this new injection of $400 million will help to boost our economic recovery, keep our families safe and back local jobs,” Mr Littleproud said.

“The Inland Freight Route will transform the way freight moves across the State, all the way from Mungindi to Charters Towers, and Maranoa is right at the centre of the route.

“This project is a real win for Maranoa – it will make our local roads safer, improve connectivity between our towns and reduce travel times, and will support up to 610 direct jobs.

“The Federal Government’s record funding commitment is creating jobs, boosting business investment, while securing Australia’s COVID recovery.

“The Federal Budget continues the Government’s agenda to improve high-priority roads essential to the movement of people and freight to support the region’s economic development.”

The Australian Government looks forward to working constructively with the Queensland Government to deliver this infrastructure, supporting jobs and businesses right across Queensland.
