The Maranoa region’s thriving transport sector has been given a helping hand thanks to $1.6 million from the federal government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program – Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Tranche 4.
The funds will go towards converting an existing gravel surface at the Roma Truck Stop precinct into an asphalted surface, as well as new line marking works to designate areas for movements and parking of heavy vehicles.
Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud welcomed the funding, saying it would help make the $2 million project a reality.
“Our Maranoa electorate is one of Australia’s agricultural powerhouses and nowhere typifies this more than the Roma region,” Mr Littleproud said.
“However, our agricultural and transport sectors cannot continue to thrive without access to safe rest areas.
“That’s why projects such as these are so important, because without our truckies, Australia stops.”
The Roma Truck Stop precinct project is among six from across the country to benefit from a $17.4 million joint investment between the Australian, state, territory and local governments, with the Australian Government contributing $9.7 million.
“I commend the federal government for working with me to deliver this fantastic outcome for the Maranoa region and I will continue to fight to ensure our electorate gets its fair share,” Mr Littleproud said.
