The Maranoa electorate’s cattle producers are set to benefit from their fair share of $38 million worth of road upgrades as part of early works on Central Queensland Beef Roads project.
Included in the early works is a 2.7-kilometre upgrade of Clermont-Alpha Road East, a 3km upgrade of Clermont Alpha Road West, and a 5.7km upgrade of Alpha-Tambo Road.
The $500 million project is being jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland Governments, with the Federal Government contributing $400 million, and the Queensland Government contributing the remaining $100 million.
Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the funds had come from months of campaigning from The Nationals.
“These upgrades will not only provide a major boost to Maranoa’s thriving agricultural sector but will also provide a major benefit to Outback tourism and the safety of the families who call Outback Queensland home,” Mr Littleproud said.
“While these funds are welcome, the Albanese Labor Government has consistently neglected regional roads since it was elected in 2022.
“The Coalition has been pushing for funding for Queensland’s vital Beef Roads for many months, and I am very proud to have helped secure them.
“The Coalition will continue to continue to fight for upgrades to regional roads because fixing country roads saves country lives.”
Construction on the early works package is expected to begin in mid-2025 and will be completed by mid-2027.
