More secrets into Labor’s Blayney Gold Mine decision
Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud said Labor’s attempt to keep the $1 billion Blayney Gold Mine decision secret is shameful and worrying.
Mr Littleproud said revelations government lawyers asked the Federal Court to keep evidence from public view at a December hearing showed Labor had something to hide.
“It is clear the government had no basis for blocking the Blayney Gold Mine and is now deliberately covering up,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Labor has been clutching at straws for cancelling a $1 billion gold mine.
“This is despite the fact gold has been experiencing record high prices and the mine would bring enormous benefits to the region.
“At the same time, unemployment is on the rise – the jobless rate recently jumped to a four-year high of 4.5 per cent.
“It is obvious Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has made a political decision, thinking that she knew better than what the people of the Central West wanted, which is jobs and economic prosperity, both of which the Blayney Gold Mine would bring.
“The Minister previously used a Section 10 to put a stop to 800 jobs in the region as well as a future and a hope for the people of Blayney.
“The Minister also overruled the New South Wales Government and her own Department, further damaging the business community’s confidence in the Albanese Government.
“There is absolutely no reason why any evidence should be kept from the public – we need to know what Labor is hiding, and why.”
