$20,000 to Control Feral Pigs on the Balonne Floodplain

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced the Dirranbandi Landcare Group will invest in aerial shooting to manage feral pigs on the Lower Balonne Floodplain with the help of $20,000 secured through the Federal Government’s Communities Environment Program (CEP).

“Feral pigs damage our waterways, destroy native vegetation, spread disease and weeds so I welcome the Dirranbandi Landcare Group’s initiative to address these concerns with aerial shooting,” Mr Littleproud said.

“I look forward to seeing the results from this aerial shooting program – Dirranbandi Landcare Group will be monitoring feral pig numbers before and after the project and moving forward with other pest management practices, that information will be well-utilised.

“The pest management project will commence in early 2020 and is to be completed within a three month timeframe.

“Cleaning up our river systems and making sure native vegetation has a chance to grow there means we’re helping to keep our regions cleaner and greener for everyone to utilise.”

Through this round of the Communities Environment Program $22 million has been secured for community clubs, not-for-profit organisations, landcare groups and schools to address a pest or environmental issue.

Each federal electorate has been allocated up to $150,000 in 2019-20 for up to 20 projects.
