The Toowoomba Regional Council will have a fresh look once several construction and rejuvenation projects are completed around the region, thanks to a $1 million investment through the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme (DCP), Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.
In Mr Littleproud’s electorate of Maranoa, the construction and upgrade of community facilities comprise of the construction of the new Clifton Museum with parking and new amenities as well as an upgrade of the Millmerran Pool.
The Drought Communities Programme is designed to use local tradies and local suppliers to build infrastructure as a stimulus for communities impacted by drought.
Mr Littleproud said drought doesn’t just impact farmers, it affects the communities that support them and they need help too.
“It’s great to see that the Clifton and Millmerran communities will benefit from these improvements,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The goal is to provide short-term support through the drought by boosting local employment, public facilities and bringing people together for some good times.
“While there has been general rain in the region, many missed out and it takes more than one or two wet events to get out of drought.
“Drought certainly impacts on how we manage our businesses and personal lives, but it does not have to change how we get involved and support local groups and the community.”
All Maranoa council regions are eligible to apply for funding through the Federal Government’s $300 million Drought Communities Programme, which is part of the Federal Governments $8 billion dollar commitment to drought.
