Thallon claims gold at coveted tourism awards

The Maranoa electorate has once again stood out as a premier tourist destination with the Thallon community claiming two of the sector’s most coveted awards.

Announced on Friday, Thallon claimed two top honours, including the Best Grey Nomad Friendly Town and Best Grey Nomad Experience in Queensland, at the 2023 Grey Nomad Awards, which aim to recognise exemplary tourist destinations across Australia.

Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud congratulated the Thallon community for being recognised as one of the best tourist destinations in the country.

“From the recent Thallon Pub Choir event to the creation of the magnificent silo art, Thallon has done an outstanding job of helping our Maranoa electorate become a tourism powerhouse,” Mr Littleproud said.

“There’s no doubt Thallon is one of the most beautiful and unique places in our Maranoa electorate and it gives me great pride to see it recognised in this way.

“Organisations such as Balonne Shire Council, the Thallon Progress Association, and the entire Thallon community richly deserve this honour and I congratulate them on their efforts.”

Friday’s win comes after the region claimed the 2022 Best Grey Nomad Trail Award for the renowned Mungindi Sculpture Trail. For more information about the Grey Nomad Awards visit: Grey Nomad Awards
