NAB announces branch closures for Maranoa communities

Leader of The Nationals and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has called on the National Australia Bank (NAB) to reconsider its decision to close its Inglewood and Mitchell branches.

Both branches are the only two banking facilities in the towns, meaning both Mitchell and Inglewood will be without a traditional banking service.

Inglewood locals will now be faced with the prospect of a 138-kilometre round trip to the Millmerran branch or a 188-kilometre round trip to Goondiwindi to continue banking with NAB, while the Mitchell community will have to travel 89 kilometres each way to the closest branch in Roma.

NAB’s decision comes after a Senate inquiry into the recent closure of regional big four bank branches across the country was launched earlier this year.

Banks were urged not to make any decisions on branch closures until the inquiry concluded at the end of the year.

Mr Littleproud said the decision was a blow to both the Inglewood and Mitchell communities.

“This is a very disappointing decision from NAB and one that severely limits both communities from conducting their business,” Mr Littleproud said.

“What’s even more disappointing is that this decision has been made before the Senate inquiry could be concluded.

“I call on NAB to review this decision and reconsider closing the two branches.”Authorised by David Littleproud, Warwick, Queensland

While both NAB branches are slated to be closed on October 19 this year, Australia Post has advised both its

Mitchell and Inglewood sites will offer Bank at Post options for those who prefer to do their banking in town.
