Albanese needs to match Crisafulli in Taroom Trough approvals

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has backed the Crisafulli government’s push to develop the Taroom Trough for oil and called on the Albanese government to accelerate environmental approvals like they have for renewable projects.

Mr Littleproud said if the Albanese government could accelerate environmental approvals for the Tarong West Wind Farm project in his electorate they could do the same for Taroom Trough.

The environmental impact of drilling 3km down where extraction already is proven compared to the environmental damage wind farms and transmission lines cause should allow the federal government to back the Queensland governments quick approvals process.

Mr Littleproud said the Albanese government has already set a precedent by providing a shortened environmental approval process for the Tarong West wind farm. The same can be applied for the Taroom Trough.

The Tarong West Wind Farm is set to be located 30 kilometres west of Kingaroy, with plans for 97 wind turbines, making it one of the largest wind farms in Queensland.

Mr Littleproud said this was a test for the Albanese government to show how serious they were about Australia’s sovereign security into the future and needed to back the decision of the Queensland governments approvals.
