Eight Mile Intersection Upgrade moving along

Works on the Eight Mile Intersection Upgrade are progressing as motorists inch closer to accessing a substantially improved Cunningham Highway.

According to the QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads, work has started in the median of the Cunningham Highway to construct the centre pier of the overpass.

Federal Member for Maranoa, David Littleproud, welcomed the news and encouraged motorists to continue to observe and obey traffic management as they move through the area.

“The upgrade is progressing and we are all a step closer to a better, safer road,” said Mr Littleproud.

“The notorious black spot has claimed too many lives in our community and this upgrade has been one of my major priorities since being elected.

“There are many people out working on the upgrade and I would strongly encourage motorists to please be patient, to slow to 40km/h and follow direction from traffic controllers.”

Additional traffic barriers have been installed to protect road workers as they clear the media area and erect a large piling rig. The piling rig will be used to drive piles at least 18 metres deep into the ground. These piles will be part of the foundations for the centre pier of the overpass.
