Federal Budget commits $126.5 million for Emu Swamp Dam for Granite Belt water security

Maranoa MP David Littleproud said the Coalition Federal Government was absolutely committed to seeing the Emu Swamp Dam completed with last night’s Budget including an additional $126.5 million for water security in the Granite Belt.

“In the 2022-23 Budget, we’ve committed an additional $126.5 million – through the National Water Grid Fund – for the construction of the Emu Swamp Dam and Pipeline, taking the total Federal Coalition Government commitment to $168.5 million,” Mr Littleproud said.

“This project will give Granite Belt producers the water security they need, with local farmers having chipped in more than $23.4 million.

“The Emu Swamp Dam will create hundreds of full-time jobs, inject tens of millions of dollars into the local economy and give a secure water source to our producers, who help feed our great nation and export around the world.”

Known as the Granite Belt Irrigation Project, it includes a 12,000 megalitre dam at Emu Swamp south-west of Stanthorpe, and 126 kilometres of pipeline.
