A project destined to be a game-changer for the Blackall community has taken its first steps towards becoming a reality.
On Friday, Leader of The Nationals and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud joined Blackall-Tambo Regional Council to turn the first sod of the new Blackall Cultural Precinct.
Funded by the federal government’s Growing Regions Program Round 2, the $14.9 million project is set to help the Blackall-Tambo Regional Council create a new facility to showcase local art and culturally significant artefacts, as well as create a new indoor-outdoor gallery and exhibition space.
Mr Littleproud said the project would help strengthen the Maranoa electorate’s reputation as a tourism powerhouse and help preserve the region’s rich history.
“It was fantastic to be on hand to help turn the first sod of this exciting project,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The region has a rich cultural history, and this state-of-the-art facility will ensure that it’s preserved for our future generations and shared with visitors from across the globe.
“This project will have an enormously positive impact on the community, and I can’t wait to see it progress.
“Projects such as this are pivotal to ensuring our regional, rural, and remote communities continue to thrive, and I will continue to fight to ensure we get our fair share of funding opportunities.”
