The South Burnett region’s proud tradition of being a sporting powerhouse would get a major boost thanks to a $75,000 commitment from an elected Coalition Government to upgrade facilities at Kingaroy’s Lyle Vidler Oval.
Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the funds would go towards expanding the oval’s clubhouse to allow for new men’s and women’s changing rooms.
“Sport plays such a vital role in the social fabric of communities across our Maranoa electorate,” Mr Littleproud said.
“However, having access to adequate facilities is vital to ensuring our younger generations can get active and participate in the sports they love.
“It shouldn’t matter what part of Australia you call home; everyone should have the same opportunity to have access to the sports facilities they need, and an elected Coalition Government will make this happen for the South Burnett.”
In recent years, the venue has been the starting point for Australian cricketing greats Matthew Hayden, Holly Ferling, and Courtney Sippel and is now home to the South Burnett Saints Australian Rules Football Club, as well as local cricket competitions.
South Burnett Saints president Jeremy Zaccardi said the club has been raising funds for the upgrades for more than a year and a half, and the Coalition’s commitment would be a dream come
true for the community.
“Australian Rules is becoming increasingly popular across the South Burnett with strong numbers of young boys and girls coming through our junior ranks,” Mr Zaccardi said.
“This upgrade is crucial for us to continue to accommodate our growing numbers and provide a safe space for all of our players.
“The entire community will benefit from this upgraded facility, and we sincerely thank the
Coalition for throwing its support behind us and this project.”
