LITTLEPROUD INTRODUCES BILL REPEALING LABOR’S UNFAIR GUN LAWS
Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has introduced a Bill into the House of Representatives today being seconded by the Member for Dawson Andrew Wilcox to repeal Labor’s unjust firearms laws.
Mr Littleproud said licensed firearm owners should never have been used as scapegoats for Islamic terrorism.
“Almost one million law-abiding Australians were blamed for a crime they did not commit, and that was wrong,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The Bondi massacre was an act of Islamic terrorism. It had nothing to do with licensed firearm owners, and no evidence has ever linked them to it.”
Mr Littleproud said the Bill would restore Commonwealth firearms and importation law to its position before Labor’s Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism (Firearms and Customs Laws) Act 2026, and would abolish the Prime Minister’s National Gun Buyback Scheme.
“The Royal Commission’s own interim report confirmed that no agency identified any gap in the pre-existing legal framework that impeded the prevention of, or response to, the Bondi attack. That finding demolishes the entire premise of Labor’s legislation.”
“The perpetrators should never have had access to a firearm under the laws that already existed. How they obtained one is a question for the Royal Commission, not an excuse to punish farmers, sporting shooters and hunters who follow the rules.”
Mr Littleproud said the Government’s buyback scheme remained stalled, with Queensland, the Northern Territory and Victoria declining to participate, Tasmania pursuing its own arrangements, and South Australia refusing to change its laws. Only New South Wales and the ACT have committed to the buyback.
“While the Government’s buyback goes nowhere, lawful firearms businesses, many of them small family operations that have served their communities for generations, are being destroyed by Labor’s laws.”
Mr Littleproud said he was proud to stand alongside Mr Wilcox and the wider firearms community in opposing the January legislation.
“The Nationals led the fight against these laws from day one, and a petition of more than 71,000 signatures shows just how strongly firearm owners feel about this. I’ll keep fighting until these laws are repealed.”
