Maranoa MP welcomes new and returning councillors in Western Downs and South Burnett

Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has congratulated the men and women elected to the Western Downs and South Burnett Regional councils.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland recently declared all of the results from the March 16 local government elections with the new-look councils beginning to be sworn in.

This year’s elections proved to be historic with Kathy Duffy elected as South Burnett’s first female mayor, while Andrew Smith was elected as the new mayor of Western Downs following Paul McVey’s retirement.

Mr Littleproud congratulated the elected mayors and councillors for stepping up and representing their communities.

“Our councils play a vital role in the success of our Maranoa electorate, but they can’t advocate for our communities unless dedicated locals step up and serve their local government areas,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Serving as an elected official is a huge responsibility and to see so many qualified locals from all walks of life and a variety of different backgrounds put their hands up at this year’s elections is truly inspiring,” Mr Littleproud said.

“To all of the outgoing mayors and councillors from across the region, I thank every one of them for their years of dedicated service.

“I congratulate everyone elected and I look forward to working closely with them in the years ahead to achieve the best for our electorate’s communities.”
