Member for Maranoa speaks to children from Injune State School

Maranoa’s next generation of leaders urged to enter My First Speech competition

Federal Member for Maranoa and Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud is encouraging the electorate’s next generation of political leaders to enter the My First Speech Competition.

Co-ordinated by the Department of the House of Representatives, the competition is open to students in years 10-12 and calls on them to write and record themselves on video giving a 90-second speech highlighting the issues they are passionate about.

The competition’s three lucky winners will then be flown to Parliament House in Canberra, along with a parent or guardian, to give the speech in person and take part in a program at Parliament House.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the competition was a terrific opportunity for the electorate’s young people to sharpen their leadership skills.

“Leadership begins at school and competitions such as these give our students a wonderful opportunity to learn and develop their skills,” Mr Littleproud said.

“It’s no secret that our children are our future and any opportunity we can give them to have a voice about the issues affecting their communities should be celebrated.

“I urge all of the eligible students in my electorate to put their hand up and have a go at this terrific competition.”

Entries close Friday, August 11. To enter visit www.aph.gov.au/myfirstspeech
