Marking Anzac Day 2023 in Maranoa

April 19, 2023

As Anzac Day 2023 approaches, Maranoa MP David Littleproud is urging Maranoa residents to commemorate the day in their own way.

This year marks the 50 year anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War and 100 years of veterans support service Legacy.

Whether it is via an organised service across the electorate, or in their own home, Mr Littleproud said how you mark the day is up to you.

“At its heart, Anzac Day is a time for us to personally reflect on the sacrifices of our servicemen and servicewomen who have served and continue to serve our country,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Whether you light up the dawn at home, watch a service online or on television, or gather for a dawn service or march, we can all proudly carry on the legacy of acknowledging service and sacrifice on Anzac Day 2023.”

Mr Littleproud said it was also important to encourage the electorate’s young people to get involved in the day, to ensure the legacy of remembrance carries on for generations.

“This year, I will be marking the occasion with a service at the Chinchilla State High School, before attending the dawn service at Kingaroy and a commemorative service at Nanango, which will be part of the town’s 175 year celebrations,” Mr Littleproud said.

Maranoa residents are also being encouraged to contribute to the Australian War Memorial’s interactive Places of Pride website, which has so far recorded more than 11,000 memorials across the country.

Mr Littleproud encouraged Maranoa residents and community groups to contribute their local memorials to the project, which will become part of new galleries at the Australian War Memorial.
