The Nanango community will now be able to honour its servicemen and women in new ways thanks to more than $27,000 worth of federal government grants.
The Nanango RSL Sub Branch secured $27,833 via three different federal government programs to help maintain its proud tradition of honouring its servicemen and women.
Via the Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants Program, the Nanango RSL Sub Branch secured $10,000 to restore plaques at the Nanango War Memorial, while it also received $13,727 via the government’s Veteran Wellbeing Grants (VWG) Program and a further $4106 in the form of a Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) Grant.
The STS Commemorative Grants Program supports community-based commemorative projects and activities, while the VWG Program aims to maintain and improve the independence and quality of life for members of the veteran community and the BEST Grant aims to support the work of ex-service organisations in providing advocacy services to the defence and veteran communities.
Having marked Anzac Day 2023 in Nanango, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said he was delighted to see the Nanango RSL Sub Branch boosted by these funding programs.
“Recently, I saw first-hand that the Anzac Spirit is alive and well in the Nanango community during a number of Anzac Day commemorations,” Mr Littleproud said.
“These programs offer community groups the opportunity to honour those who have served, and I look forward to seeing what good things will come the from the funds secured by the Nanango RSL Sub Branch.”
The funds secured by the Nanango RSL Sub Branch via the STS Commemorative Grants Program was among the $85,669 secured for the Maranoa electorate in the latest phase of the program.
“What the STS Commemorative Grants Program does is ensure that communities can honour our national heroes in their own way,” Mr Littleproud said.
“I want to congratulate the Nanango RSL Sub Branch on securing this funding and all of the groups in my electorate that were successful in this latest round of the program.”
