The Maranoa region has continued to show why it is one of Australia’s most popular tourism hotspots by claiming a top gong at the Australian Top Tourism Awards 2024.
Roma took out the bronze in the Top Tourism Town category, finishing behind Devonport, Tasmania, which claimed gold and Bendigo, Victoria, which won silver.
Held at Parliament House in Canberra, this year’s awards ceremony celebrated the regional towns and tourism operators that help to shape the landscape of Australian tourism through offering intimate and authentic experiences for visitors.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said he was thrilled to see Roma recognised as one of Australia’s top tourism destinations.
“Our Maranoa electorate is home to some of the most unique, engaging and unforgettable tourism experiences in Australia,” Mr Littleproud said.
“No where is this more evident than in Roma.
“From the Big Rig to the Roma Saleyards and First Nations cultural tours, Roma truly has something for everyone.”
Tuesday’s victory comes after Roma was named Queensland’s Top Tourism Town in the Queensland Tourism Industry Council awards earlier this year.
“This award is a fitting recognition for the entire community of Roma, which has worked very hard to become a leader in the tourism industry,” Mr Littleproud said.
“I congratulate Maranoa Regional Council on this award and will be encouraging everyone to get out to Roma and experience this wonderful part of our electorate for themselves.”
