Stanthorpe earns top tourism gong

The Southern Downs has further cemented itself as one of Australia’s favourite tourism destinations with Stanthorpe being ranked third in travel website Wotif’s 2024 Aussie Town of the Year Awards.

Finishing behind Bendigo and Broken Hill, Stanthorpe claimed third spot on the list which Wotif compiles based on data that is driven by factors such as accommodation affordability, quality, and traveller satisfaction.

Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the ranking was a fitting reward for Stanthorpe.

“From stunning scenery to award-winning wineries and world-class events Stanthorpe has it all,” Mr Littleproud said.

“It is immensely pleasing that Stanthorpe is being recognised on the national stage because it confirms that our Maranoa electorate is one of the best places to visit in Australia.”

Mr Littleproud said events such as the bi-annual Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, which is set to return later this month, and Snowflakes in Stanthorpe had helped secure the honour.

“Every two years, up to 100,000 people visit Stanthorpe for the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival and it is easy to see why,” he said.

“This event showcases everything great about the Southern Downs and Granite Belt regions, and I encourage everyone to come along this year.”

This year’s Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival will be held from February 23 to March 3.
