Veteran health and wellbeing supported in Nanango

A program supporting the health and wellbeing of our veteran community in Nanango will receive $10,310 under the Veteran and Community Grants Program, Maranoa MP David Littleproud announced today.

“This program will be provided through local organisations, and is an important factor to ensuring veterans and their families continue to get the support they need,” Mr Littleproud said.

“In Nanango, $10,310 has been allocated to the Nanango RSL Sub-Branch to run a program designed to assist veterans in identifying and managing risks which contribute to preventable falls and to improve strength and balance.

“Also in Maranoa, the Alaric Outback Retreat in Adavale received $1,453 to replace a faulty refrigerator. The Alaric Outback Retreat is run entirely by veteran volunteers, providing a secure and relaxing retreat to advance the welfare of all service people both current and former.

“This is fantastic for the some 2,271 veterans and their families in Maranoa and I encourage them to engage with some of these projects.

“Congratulations to the successful applicants for this round and thank you for the ongoing support that you offer to the veteran community.

“This funding not only supports local veterans and their families, but has a growing effect within our communities, by supporting local employment and businesses.”

A total $2.4 million of funding was available under the 2020-21 Veteran and Community Grants Program towards the development of new programs and services to help reduce social isolation for veterans by supporting local social events, upgrade existing facilities, create a community garden and provide transportation for veterans to participate in community events.
