$1 million for Murweh to deliver practical and entertaining results
February 14, 2020Entertainment, workshops and upgraded public facilities are going to bring a fresh look to Murweh Shire, thanks to the $1 million investment from the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.
“This funding is part of the Federal Government’s $8 billion drought response, to boost local infrastructure projects and bring people together in the Murweh Shire,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The goal is to provide short-term support through the drought by boosting local employment, public facilities and bringing people together for some good times.
“While there has been general rain in the South-West, many missed out and it takes more than one or two wet events to get out of drought.
“One of the great things about DCP is that funds are driven down into local groups who have a say in which local is contracted to make the upgrades.
“When community groups make these informed decisions, they are justifying projects that are worthwhile for that sports club or community.
“Drought certainly impacts on how we manage our businesses and personal lives, but it does not have to change how we get involved and support local groups and the community.”
Drought Communities Programme funding projects in the Murweh Shire include:
- Upgraded power and water reticulation supply to the Charleville Showgrounds;
- Improvements to the public children’s pool in Charleville;
- Stronger TV connectivity infrastructure for the Morven community;
- Public lighting at Morven’s recreational grounds;
- Water reticulation improvements at Augathella’s sporting oval;
- Displays, workshops and entertainment at the Augathella Rodeo weekend, Charleville Show and the 30th anniversary of the Charleville floods event.
All Maranoa council regions are eligible to apply for funding through the Federal Government’s $300 million Drought Communities Programme Extension round.
