$92,024 to help tackle tough times in the Goondiwindi region

May 21, 2020

Keeping a lid on rubbish and growing greener fields will be key goals in the Goondiwindi region, thanks in part to $92,024 secured through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal’s Tackling Tough Times Together (TTTT) program, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.

“The Goondiwindi Pastoral and Agricultural Society will benefit from a $47,024 investment, to buy equipment and run their volunteer rubbish pick up program, which will have positive flow-on effects for the town,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Keeping our towns in good order builds a sense of pride, brings people together and leaves a great impression on visitors.

“With an injection of $45,000, the Yelarbon Primary School’s outdoor spaces will be greener, with the P&C Association planning to grow more lawns there.

“This will go a long way to keeping the students out of the dust and classrooms cleaner.

“Boosting operations and stimulating local economies are important features of the TTTT program, while bringing people together in drought-affected communities.

“Standing together is important now more than ever and communities can rest assured the Government continues to have their back, with money already flowing through rolling grants as part of our more than $8 billion drought support package.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said rural and regional Australia is continuing to show amazing spirit and resilience as they support each other through these tough times.

“I am glad to see these grants providing much-needed support to our hard-hit regional communities at such a crucial time, with this latest round of funding to be delivered to community groups.”

Across Maranoa, nine projects will be funded with $394,939 through Round 16 of the Tackling Tough Times Together program.

The Federal Government has committed nearly $1.5 million to this round nationally.
