Better in Blackall Festival sure to energise and bring good times

A Troy Cassar-Daley concert, the unveiling of racehorse Miss Petty’s gidgee statue, barbeque cook offs and a triathlon are just a sample of the events going on at the Better in Blackall Festival, officially opened by Maranoa MP David Littleproud Wednesday night.

“Doing better in Blackall means celebrating the Year of the Outback with creativity and putting on a series of events that entrain and inform visitors about this great part of the world,” Mr Littleproud said.

Mr Littleproud unveiled a statue of the record-setting local racehorse, Miss Petty, and introduced Troy Cassar-Daley to the audience on the opening night.

“There’s no doubt that Pip Fearon – the artist who made this statue of the famous Miss Petty racehorse from gidgee wood – has put a lot of effort and thought into making such a lifelike creation.

“It’s going to bring back a lot of memories of Miss Petty’s racing records and remind us of just how important country racing is.

“It’s exciting to see Troy Cassar-Daley holding workshops and a concert here at the Better in Blackall Festival and I’m sure that locals and visitors alike will kick up their heels and have a great night.

“This community certainly deserves a chance to kick back because they’ve battled severe drought for a long time and coming together like this and just enjoying the unique talents on offer gives plenty of space to laugh and simply enjoy life.

“Congratulations to Blackall on putting together an excellent series of events, entertainment and showing true country hospitality.”
Better in Blackall Festival runs from August 14-18. For more information visit, www.betterinblackall.com/
