Looking after people with existing health conditions during COVID-19

As the coronavirus pandemic unfolds, following up with your GP to keep on top of any health concerns is crucial.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud said expanded Medicare-rebated telehealth appointments and medicine delivery are two services incentivising people across Maranoa to continue managing their health through the pandemic.

“Your health care needs don’t take a back seat because of COVID-19,” Mr Littleproud said.

“It’s critical that people continue to manage their general health throughout the COVID-19 health emergency.

“I urge anyone who is dealing with a health concern to follow up with their doctor by calling them to find out about telehealth appointments or if they need to have a face-to-face consultation.

“Telehealth services keep us safe in the comfort of our home whether that’s in the middle of Dalby or Longreach, or 100 kilometres away on a cattle station.

“They are Medicare-subsidised and cover a range of concerns including general assessments and mental health.”

Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, said it was vitally important regular health care checks continued.

‘To further stop the spread of COVID-19 Australians can now have their PBS medicines delivered to their home from their community pharmacy of their choice through the Australian Government “COVID-19 Home Medicines Service,” Minister Hunt said.

“There is no additional cost to have their medicines delivered to their home.”

Mr Littleproud is encouraging everyone to consider getting their flu vaccine over the coming weeks to protect them against the flu.

“April and May is the best time to get a flu vaccine and people should contact their doctor or community pharmacy to book an appointment,” Mr Littleproud said.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has this week launched Expert Advice Matters, a nationwide campaign to stop people from neglecting their health concerns during COVID-19. A website, www.expertadvicematters.com.au, has been set up with straightforward, practical advice for patients.
