Charleville Men’s Shed receives $3300

The Charleville Men’s Shed is set to undergo an information technology transformation thanks to a much-needed Federal Government grant, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.

“Under the National Shed Development Programme, the Charleville Men’s Shed will receive $3300 and will use this grant to replace outdated computers and equipment, and train members to bring them up-to-date with technology,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Charleville Men’s Shed members freely give their time and expertise to help the community and share skills and knowledge with anyone keen to learn wood and metal working and help with community projects.

“The Men’s Shed initiative plays an important role in our community as it provides practical and social benefits for members and the broader community.

“Men’s Shed provides a welcoming environment where men – of all ages – can learn new skills, make friends, be involved in volunteer work, or you can just drop in for a cuppa and a yarn.

“Research suggests many men from the bush don’t feel comfortable using structured health and support services, so Men’s Shed helps them connect with local services to improve mental and general health as well as being involved in the community.”

Including today’s announcement, the Government has provided $6.4 million in grant funding to support Men’s Sheds across Australia since 2013.

“This funding helps Men’s Sheds to buy tools and equipment, support community projects and training, maintain or develop their buildings, or create local activities to improve men’s health and I congratulate the Inglewood Men’s Shed for their commitment to the community,” Mr Littleproud said.
