Maranoa MP David Littleproud is encouraging communities in Maranoa to identify local projects that will boost community safety and prevent crime and put them forward for funding, with up to $30 million up for grabs through Round 6 of the Safer Communities Fund.
Round 6 of the Safer Communities Fund will provide up to $20 million for early intervention projects and up to $10 million for security infrastructure.
“This funding will help ensure people in our local community feel safe as they go about their daily lives, that’s why it’s so important that local councils and community organisations in Maranoa identify infrastructure projects that can be supported through this funding,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The early intervention funding stream will provide support for at risk young people to help them turn away from crime and build positive relationships and job readiness skills, while also helping our local communities to feel safer from violence, harassment and anti-social behaviour.
“The infrastructure funding will not only improve security and protect communities through projects such as CCTV, fencing and bollards, it will also keep local people employed, boosting local economies.
“This announcement is delivering on the Coalition Government’s commitment to deliver safer communities through crime prevention initiatives.”
The Early Intervention Grant opportunity is open to organisations that engage in early intervention activities with at risk young people to prevent them from engaging in criminal activity or anti-social behaviour. Applications are now open and will close on 22 July 2021.
Infrastructure Grants are available to community organisations, places of worship, schools and pre-schools, and local councils to help implement and boost crime prevention and security initiatives such as CCTV, lighting and bollards. Applications are now open and will close on 5 August 2021.
The Safer Communities Fund is a long-standing program that has invested more than $215 million since 2016 and provided over 600 grants directly to local communities.
