Community organisations across South West Queensland are set to benefit from thousands of dollars worth of grant funding through the federal government’s Volunteer Grants program.
A total of 23 community groups from across the Maranoa electorate will share in more than $66,000 worth of funds, which will go towards a variety of good causes. Among the organisations benefiting from the latest round of the program are the St George Meals On Wheels Association Inc ($2,800), the Meandarra State School P&C Association ($4,000), Lions Club Of St George Inc ($1,594), and the Care Balonne Association Inc ($1,995).
Member for Maranoa, David Littleproud, said all 23 of the successful community groups were worthy recipients of this year’s Volunteer Grants.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our Maranoa electorate, and these grants will go a long way to helping these organisations continue their life-changing work,” Mr. Littleproud said. “Our communities are a better place because of the good work these groups do, and it gives me great pride to have helped secure the funding to give these organisations a helping hand. I look forward to seeing what positive outcomes come from these latest grants.”
Mr. Littleproud also encouraged more locals to get involved and volunteer in their communities.
“Volunteers make a major difference in our communities, and some of our favourite events, as well as services we depend on, wouldn’t exist without volunteers,” Mr. Littleproud said. “There is nothing quite like volunteering, and I encourage everyone to get out and do their bit for the community.”
