The legacy of servicemen and women from the Balonne shire has been further cemented thanks to a grant of more than $48,000 from the federal government.
Balonne Shire Council has received $48,145 via the federal government’s Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants Program.
The funds will be used to create a series of digital presentations about war memorials across the region.
Maranoa MP David Littleproud said he was thrilled projects from across the Maranoa electorate received a combined $85,669 through the latest round of the program.
“The (STS) Commemorative Grants Program is fantastic in that it helps community groups recognise those who have served our country in unique and special ways,” Mr Littleproud said.
“It is very pleasing that the Maranoa electorate got its fair share in this latest round of the program and I am very excited to see what good things will come from the grant secured by Balonne Shire Council.”
Mr Littleproud said the program was crucial in ensuring the Anzac Spirit lives on for future generations.
“Recently, I saw first-hand that the Anzac Spirit is alive and well in the Maranoa electorate during a number of Anzac Day commemorations,” Mr Littleproud said.
“What the STS Commemorative Grants Program does is ensure that communities can honour our national heroes in their own way.
“I want to congratulate Balonne Shire Council on securing this funding and all of the groups in my electorate that were successful in this latest round of the program.”
The STS program is ongoing and is always open for applications with assessment of applications split into three batches across the year.
