Building stronger communities top goal at Glenmorgan and Yamsion

July 22, 2019

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced $24,759 – secured through the Federal Government’s Tackling Tough Times Together program – to enhance social activities at Glenmorgan and Yamsion.

“Active community members are the lifeline of any rural area and with $20,000 the Yamsion Hall will soon include a shed that can be used for storage and to host events,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Creating multi-purpose facilities, like the Yamsion Hall, gives families and our younger generations more reason to support local events and get involved with what’s on offer.

“Glenmorgan is going to be a hive of activity with three craft workshops, making cheese, benches and lampshades in the works.

“This funding provides great incentive for local organisations to secure funds for workshops, which during drought will provide some relief, new ideas and engagement with activities that can take your mind off of the more serious things in our lives.

“Tackling Tough Times Together grants are allocated to community associations, show societies, progress committees and environmental groups to support projects that reduce social isolation and that is a cause I fully support, particularly during drought.

“Communities in Maranoa who have received these grants did so through an allocation of $1.4 million provided by the Coalition Federal Government to the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal,” Mr Littleproud said.

The aim of this funding support is to enhance community health, wellbeing, and make way for locals across Maranoa to get involved as volunteers and support organisations that give back to the community.

“These projects help drought-affected communities cope with the stress of drought while also contributing to the local economy and community infrastructure renewal.”
