Cunnamulla’s airstrip set for upgrade Maranoa MP announces
Cunnamulla’s airstrip landings and take-offs are about to get a lot smoother with $277,243 secured for resealing, and upgrading the taxiway, runway and lighting, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.
“Being connected to regional centres is vital for every remote community and I am pleased today to announce that Cunnamulla will receive the airstrip work they need and deserve,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Upgrading airstrips keep our air services landing and taking off safely and that means the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Australia Post, freight and other air transport services can continue to service local needs in Cunnamulla.
“Upgrades like this will ensure that Cunnamulla’s residents can remain well-connected, overcoming the effects of the tyranny of distance.
“This Coalition Federal Government is continuing our investment in vital infrastructure in our bush communities, particularly through key air transport works which are a lifeline for many isolated communities stretched across Maranoa.”
In total, Mr Littleproud secured $487,243 through Round Six of the Australian Government’s Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program, where upgrade works will also be carried out at the Aramac, Windorah, Stonehenge and Jundah airstrips.
