Extra volts for Goondiwindi Men’s Shed

Power upgrades at the Goondiwindi Men’s Shed to a 240 volt meter box will pave the way for better access to the facility with $6000 in Federal Government funding to support the works, Maranoa MP David Littleproud announced today.

“Funded through the National Shed Development Programme, the Goondiwindi Men’s Shed will also get new lighting and relocate two storage containers to make way for new projects that the volunteers undergo,” Mr Littleproud said.

“This is great news, because that’s the big picture behind men’s sheds – men working together on projects that benefit the local community.

“To stay healthy, we need to do regular activities and stay connected with the people around us and this is why our local Men’s Shed has become an important part of communities across Maranoa.

“Men’s sheds are integral to the community and the benefits to men’s health are widely acknowledged. Feeling part of a social group – especially in our regional and rural communities – is important to our emotional and mental health.

“Men’s Sheds really help men get out of the house, involved with a project and being around a community of minds is priceless when it comes to undergoing projects.”

Under Round 19 of the National Shed Development Programme, $16,584 has been secured across Maranoa with Allora and Kingaroy Men’s Sheds’ also receiving funding.

Since 2013, the Government has provided $4.92 million through the National Shed Development Programme to support Men’s Sheds across Australia.
