Funding to help Thallon bounce back from drought

A new sculpture trail will add to local tourism offerings and increase community belonging in Thallon, thanks to $35,876 secured through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal’s Tackling Tough Times Together (TTTT) program, Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.

“It’s great to see funds flowing to a number of important community projects across Maranoa through Round 20 of the TTTT program which will help to stimulate regional economies and strengthen social connections in our drought-affected communities,” Mr Littleproud said.

“An injection of $35,876 will support the Thallon Progress Association to deliver the ‘Sculptures in the Scrub’ Thallon Art History Trail Project.

“Thallon is already home to great tourism offerings including William the Wombat and the impressive ‘Watering Hole’ Silo Mural – this latest project will provide another reason for visitors to stop in and say g’day to locals at Thallon.

“In additional to the economic boost of increased tourism, the project will give residents a sense of belonging and increase pride and connection to their town.”

Across Maranoa, 11 projects will be funded with $374,370 through Round 20 of the Tackling Tough Times Together program.

Mr Littleproud said the projects supported through the latest grants round will provide relief and assistance to volunteers, get more members of the community out and about and upgrade community spaces and infrastructure, making life that bit easier in drought-affected regional communities

“We are proud to continue supporting the Foundation’s important work at such a critical time, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these local groups to help deliver crucial projects that will strengthen regional economies and social bonds in drought-affected communities,” Mr Littleproud said.

“The Federal Government is backing regional Australia every step of the way to ensure communities bounce back stronger than ever.”
