Grants now open – Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee

February 25, 2022

Councils, schools and community groups in the Maranoa electorate are invited to submit an Expression of Interest for grants to plant trees for the Queen’s Jubilee.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the program will honour of the legacy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and her 70 years of service to Australia and the Commonwealth.

“During her 70 years of service, The Queen has visited Australia on 16 occasions, and on many of these visits she has planted trees at community events and ceremonies – leaving a long-lasting reminder of the special occasion for the people in those communities,” Mr Littleproud said.

The Queen is said to have planted 1500 trees throughout Her reign.

“The Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program will help to increase community awareness and celebration of Her Majesty’s Jubilee and create a legacy of tree plantings across the nation for Australians to enjoy and increase the area of tree canopy in our communities,” Mr Littleproud said.

Grants from $2,500 to $20,000 will be available to a broad range of organisations within the Maranoa electorate, with a total of $100,000 available for up to 10 projects.

Projects that are suitable must include plantings of regionally appropriate tree species, along with formal commemorative events in 2022 to mark the Jubilee and installation of commemorative signage.

Mr Littleproud said the program is just one of a range of national and community events planned by the Australian Government to celebrate The Queen’s Jubilee year.
