Leader of The Nationals and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud is wishing local communities a happy Australia Day.
Mr Littleproud said Australia Day was a special day to be with friends and family, reflecting on thepast and moving towards the future.
“Australia is made up of wonderful communities in our cities and regional, rural and remote
Australia, with diverse backgrounds and heritage,” Mr Littleproud said.
“I know communities across Australia will reflect on our democracy and the freedom we enjoy inAustralia.
“Today is a chance for those communities to come together and acknowledge what it means to beAustralian and how fortunate we are.”
Mr Littleproud added the sacrifices, hard work and achievements of local communities made upthe rich fabric of Australia.
He said each and every community had something special to offer.
“We all belong in Australia and that’s acknowledged today with the mutual respect we share forone another.
“I also welcome the thousands of new citizens to Australia, who have immigrated to our nationand chosen to make a difference in our nation and enjoy our way of life.
“Our country is better for the new citizens who will now call Australia home.
“They have made a great choice in Australia and I sincerely hope their day is special in their newcommunity with their family and friends.
“I’m sure our new citizens will be made to feel welcome, whether that’s at a ceremony, a
barbecue, a sports event or perhaps during quiet reflection.
“As communities come together, I wish them all a happy Australia Day.”
