Netball players in Stanthorpe will be able to unleash their skills on four newly constructed courts, thanks in part to a $150,850 Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) boost, Maranoa MP David Littleproud announced today.
“You can ask any rural community and they will tell you how important top-notch sports facilities are,” Mr Littleproud said.
“These upgrades will enable the Stanthorpe Netball Association to hold regular training sessions and local and regional competitions which bring visitors to the Granite Belt. That’s a boost for hotels, restaurants and tourism.
“For people moving to the Granite Belt, they have an opportunity to get involved and make friends with locals on the courts. The more part of a community you feel the more likely you are to stay.
“Besides enhancing that community spirit, everyone needs to exercise and keep fit. Sport – netball in this case – acts as an enabler for these positive outcomes.”
“This $150,850 investment also provides Stanthorpe’s youth with access to facilities that match those available in our bigger cities – just because you come from the bush doesn’t mean you can’t access top-notch facilities.
“I’ve now secured more than $45 million through BBRF for projects in the Maranoa electorate since 2016 which is a great result for communities in our part of the world.
“BBRF funded projects go a long way to improving services, events, facilities, creating jobs and securing our fair share for communities that have been battling through drought.”
Round Four of BBRF includes a total $200 million in grants, with projects falling under the Infrastructure Projects Stream or the Community Investments Stream.
The Infrastructure Projects Stream: Supports projects that involve construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure
The Community Investments Stream: Funds community development activities including new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities.
Across Maranoa, 12 BBRF infrastructure projects will be funded with $21,204,009 and seven BBRF community projects will be funded with $138,087.
