Maranoa MP: $711,714 for Upgrades at Cooyar and Crows Nest Showgrounds
May 8, 2020The Cooyar and Crows Nest Showgrounds are set to be renewed and reinvigorated with $711,714 through the Federal Government’s Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants program, Maranoa MP David Littleproud announced today.
“Shows are a major drawcard for the Toowoomba region and while it’s disappointing the Crows Nest Show was cancelled this year because of COVID-19, it will be back in 2021,” Mr Littleproud said.
“The Crows Nest Show Society will make use of more than $280,000 for general upgrades, including construction of ablutions blocks that are wheelchair and parent friendly and upgrades to the meeting room so that it is also more accessible.
“The society will also engage an artist to create artworks around the Crows Nest Showgrounds and all-weather paths will be built to give show goers better access to sideshow alley, the animals and exhibitions.
“In Cooyar, $430,215 will be used by the Show Society to build a new multipurpose facility which will include a new ablutions block, kitchen, storage and administration office.
“Shows are the heart and soul of our regional communities and when their next event rolls around, these upgrades will make the event even more attractive to show goers.
“I’m a firm believer in bringing people together and improving community services across Maranoa because it has a positive flow-on effect on our quality of life and how we support each other – making improvements to the Cooyar and Crows Nest Showgrounds reflects this.
“Upgrading show facilities means more visitors to these regional events, more local employment, and more tills ringing in local businesses.
“I want to see our shows continue to grow in size and popularity and bridge the rural/urban divide.”
A total of 122 regional shows received a portion of funding through the $20 million Regional Agricultural Show Development grants program. Show societies in Maranoa received more than $3.4 million.
