Maranoa MP praises the work of Wieambilla investigators

Leader of The Nationals and Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has welcomed news the Queensland Police Service, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, has made an arrest relating to the tragic shootings in Wieambilla last December where two police officers and a Wieambilla local were killed.

Queensland Police Service have called a media conference for Wednesday afternoon to announce a 58-year-old man has been arrested in the state of Arizona in the United States in relation to the incident, which police believe was a religiously motivated attack.

The announcement comes after investigators from the Ethical Standards Command and the Security and Counter Terrorism Command travelled to the United States recently to collaborate with the FBI as well as other local law enforcement authorities.

Mr Littleproud said the latest arrest was proof that law enforcement officers in Australia and abroad would not rest until those responsible for the tragedy, that claimed the lives of Constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow, as well as Wieambilla resident Alan Dare, were brought to justice.

“The events of last December have had a profound impact on the entire Western Downs community and it is comforting to know that law enforcement agencies are scouring the globe to find those responsible,” Mr Littleproud said.

“I applaud the Queensland Police Service for its hard work and collaboration with the FBI in reaching this milestone of the investigation.”
