The Maranoa electorate has reaffirmed its position as one of the country’s premier tourism destinations at the 2024 Queensland Tourism Industry Council Awards.
During last Friday night’s awards ceremony at the Star in Brisbane, seven different awards, across a variety of categories, were taken out by operators and events from the Maranoa electorate.
Highlighting this year’s winners was Birdsville’s Big Red Bash which won gold for best regional festival and event, while the Outback Masters Golf Tournament claimed silver.
Meanwhile, gold for visitor information services was won by the Quilpie Visitor Information Centre, Museum, and Gallery, while Longreach’s Mitchell Grass Retreat took out gold in the unique accommodation category and Balonne Shire Council won the Richard Power Award for tourism marketing campaigns for its St George Region: Get Hooked initiative.
Also tasting success at this year’s awards was Charleville’s WWII Secret Base, which won bronze in the cultural tourism category, and Roma’s Western Queensland Spirit Distillery & Cellar Door, which claimed silver for tourism restaurants and catering services.
Leader of The Nationals and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said these honours were a testament to Outback Queensland’s thriving tourism industry.
“These awards are a fitting testament to all the hardworking men and women who make our electorate’s tourism sector the envy of many across the country,” Mr Littleproud said.
“To claim top honours in such a variety of categories showcases the fact that the Maranoa electorate’s tourism sector truly has something for everyone.
“I congratulate all of this year’s winners and encourage everyone to get out there and experience these wonderful tourism hotspots for themselves.”
