Mother of Millions to Meet Its Match in Blackall-Tambo Region

December 6, 2019

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced that Blackall-Tambo Regional Council (BTRC) will conduct a mother of millions weed eradication program with $20,000 secured through the Federal Government’s Communities Environment Program (CEP).

“Mother of millions survives drought and takes over during flood events, moving down river streams and squeezing out native plants so I welcome BTRC’s initiative to address these concerns,” Mr Littleproud said.

“BTRC will use these funds to control about 220 hectares of the weed that threatens to move downstream and take over native vegetation with herbicide and spraying equipment.

“I look forward to seeing the results – the weeds will be monitored before and after the project is completed – and from that information we’ll have a very clear picture of whether or not more action will be needed.

“The pest management project will commence in early 2020 and is to be completed by June.

“Making sure native vegetation has a chance to grow without mother of millions competing for the space helps to keep our regions cleaner and greener for everyone to utilise.”

Through this round of the Communities Environment Program $22 million has been secured for community clubs, not-for-profit organisations, landcare groups and schools to address a pest or environmental issue.

Each federal electorate has been allocated up to $150,000 in 2019-20 for up to 20 projects.
