Ellice Orreal, Ballandean, was awarded the 2019 David Littleproud MP $1000 academic bursary last night (Tues., 23 July) – made available through the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ).
“Congratulations to Ellice on being awarded the bursary – without a doubt she is a very worthy recipient,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Ellice, who is completing a bachelor degree in nursing at Griffith University, is passionate about rural and regional healthcare.
“She wants to help bridge the gap between services and the people who call the Bush home after graduation.
“Besides her studies, Ellice is also a very talented soccer player, leading the Musgrave Mustangs soccer team, is a member of the Australian 17-20 years women’s team and has recently returned from a US training camp.
“Ellice’s career goals and sporting achievements will definitely equip her with lifelong skills – like getting out there, being a team player in the community and supporting rural and regional healthcare.
“Ellice knows full well that courage and determination are key factors to overcoming any hurdle and that’s why I’m glad to see this bursary awarded to such an outstanding young woman.”
To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must be a constituent of the Maranoa electorate, although they may have relocated for their studies. They must also be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia.
“We understand that moving out of your local community to pursue further study can be daunting and costly. That’s why I think this is such a great initiative by the NCWQ,” Mr Littleproud said.
“I hope to see many young people return to the bush and apply their skills in a range of different industries to grow our region. That’s why I’m committed to supporting our youth and giving them every opportunity possible.”
