‘One Stop Shop’ for drought support coming to Maranoa

November 19, 2020

Maranoa MP David Littleproud is encouraging rural residents affected by drought to find out what support is available to them at a series of Drought Community Outreach Events.

Organised and funded by the Federal Government’s National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency, and in partnership with Rotary Australia, the Drought Community Outreach Program will visit Maranoa this month to deliver services specific to farmers and their communities.

Mr Littleproud said the outreach events in Roma, St George and Goondiwindi will deliver a ‘one stop shop’ for drought support services and information.

“These events will bring together all levels of government, charities, not-for-profit and agricultural organisations to support farmers and rural communities living through the immediate and longer-term effects of drought,” Mr Littleproud said.

“It’s a great opportunity for farmers, families and rural communities to grab a sausage sandwich, catch up with friends and neighbours and find out what support is available during drought and tough times.

“Attendees will be able to get information and advice on low-interest loans, Farm Household Allowance, On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme, $3,000 Drought Community Support Initiative, and Rotary $500 household vouchers.

“The aim is to ensure our communities are given the right information, advice and options to prepare and recover from drought now and into the future.”

The events will have representatives from Australian Government agencies such as the Australian Taxation Office, Regional Investment Corporation (RIC), Services Australia and NBN Co. State government agencies and non-government organisations with drought support information will also be at each event.
