Recycling the St George Way

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced that the St George Lions Club will purchase a trailer to travel around the district collecting containers for recycling – thanks to $10,000 secured through the Federal Government’s Communities Environment Program (CEP).

“There are a lot of properties out there with containers that are fit for recycling and the St George Lions Club has shown great initiative to service the area by buying a caged trailer to collect recyclables with,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Once containers are collected, they’ll be processed at the Lions Club’s container refund scheme.

“I look forward to seeing the results – the Club will keep track of the number of containers they collect.

“The Club will also use some of the funds for signage written on the trailer to remind locals about the importance of recycling and encourage more people to get involved.

“It’s a great project with plenty of scope for community participation that helps clean up our land and recycle.”

Through this round of the Communities Environment Program $22 million has been secured for community clubs, not-for-profit organisations, landcare groups and schools to address a pest or environmental issue.

Each federal electorate has been allocated up to $150,000 in 2019-20 for up to 20 projects.
