Roma RSL Sub-Branch granted $20,000 to preserve Maranoa wartime history

The Roma RSL Sub-Branch will receive $20,000 to preserve Maranoa’s wartime heritage through the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program, Maranoa MP David Littleproud announced today.

Mr Littleproud said the funding would ensure the people of Maranoa continued to remember and understand the sacrifice made by Australian service men and women during wartime, particularly the next generation.

“This round of grants saw funding provided to the Roma RSL Sub-Branch across two important commemorative projects,” Mr Littleproud said.

“The group will receive $10,000 towards the Roma cenotaph precinct upgrade and a further $10,000 towards construction of new permanent glass display cabinet to display uniforms and Vietnam war memorabilia.

“Maranoa has a proud military history and I congratulate the Roma RSL Sub-Branch for their work in honouring those who have served our country in the Navy, Army and Air Force.”

This year has been challenging for the local community with the impacts of coronavirus being felt across the region, and of course these impacts may present new challenges for grant recipients.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is working with impacted grant recipients to ensure that they can go ahead with their project, such as getting an extension or looking into alternative options.
