Supporting Mitchell to reconnect through the Arts

In a major boost to art and culture in the bush, the Booringa Action Group has received $27,000 under the latest round of the 2021 Regional Arts Fund to create a new and exciting artwork in Mitchell.

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the grant will provide an opportunity for regional artists to cultivate creative community engagement with art and culture, helping to reconnect our regional communities.

“I am pleased to announce that the Booringa Action Group has been awarded a $27,000 Regional Arts Fund Project grant for the Booringa Fire and Water: Projection Artwork and Development project,” Mr Littleproud said.

“This project will have leading arts professionals, Kellie O’Dempsey and Jude Roberts, work with regional artists to create a new site-specific light, sound and video projection exploring “Booringa”, fire and water in Gunggari language.

“This project will strengthen artistic and creative practice in the region, while helping audiences to connect with culture and continue telling the regional stories of Mitchell.

“This is a major boost for Maranoa, and is part of the Government’s investment towards a sustainable, thriving and diverse arts sector across regional and remote communities.”

Each year the Government provides around $3.6 million through the Regional Arts Fund, supporting sustainable cultural development in regional and remote communities.

Under the latest round of the 2021 Regional Arts Fund Project grants 76 arts projects across Australia will share in almost $1.2 million.
