Waste not, want not in Kingaroy

Maranoa MP David Littleproud today announced that St Mary’s Catholic College – based in Kingaroy – will implement a recycling program with the help of $5000 secured through the Federal Government’s Communities Environment Program (CEP).

“St Mary’s has come up with a  great way to get students involved with the process of recycling while learning at the same time,” Mr Littleproud said.

“The college will install a series of recycling and compost bins as part of a student waste awareness program which will certainly go a long way to helping our youth foster a greater sense of responsibility about what can be done with waste.

“I commend St Mary’s College on developing this program because it will engage students with hands-on activities while learning about how we can all do our bit to be more resourceful with waste.

“There’s great scope for students to get involved with a community or group – they are important skills for young people to develop so that when they are older they’ll have the tools and confidence to do their part for the wider community too.”

Through this round of the Communities Environment Program $22 million has been secured for community clubs, not-for-profit organisations, landcare groups and schools to address a pest or environmental issue.

Each federal electorate has been allocated up to $150,000 in 2019-20 for up to 20 projects.
